Welcome to our review of the Drive Medical Intrepid. If you are interested in the Drive Medical Intrepid, we have some valuable information below about this product that you should know about. We feel that the EZ Lite Cruiser is the best electric wheelchairs because they are light weight, compact, easy to use and very affordable when compared to the Drive Medical Intrepid and it's offerings.

Drive Medical IntrepidWe were surprised to find a lot of very attractive specifications in the Drive Medical Intrepid P22 Mid-Wheel Power Wheelchair. As with many of the other models in Drive Medical's range, the Intrepid P22 Mid-Wheel has a lot of the same standard features, such as adjustable and removable arm rests, adjustable seat height, a controller than can be mounted on either the left or right side, and many others. The Drive Medical Intrepid P22 Mid-Wheel Power Wheelchair even has a decent turning radius, due to the positioning of the wheels. However, the main drawback to this power electric wheelchair, as with many of them, is that it is quite heavy, coming in between 204 pounds (92.5 kilograms) and 221 pounds (100.2 kilograms) depending on which size and type of seat you choose. Therefore, it will still require you to purchase and install a lift on your car or SUV in order to take this electric wheelchair long distances. Another thing that caught our attention is that the incline rating of the Drive Medical Intrepid P22 Mid-Wheel Power Wheelchair was undisclosed, so we are assuming it is not very good.

So let's get into the specifics of the parameters of the Drive Medical Intrepid. It weighs between 204 pounds (92.5 kilograms) and 221 pounds (100.2 kilograms). The 118 pounds (53.5 kilograms) is for the base, 48 pounds (21.8 kilograms) for the batteries, and between 38 pounds (17.2 kilograms) to 55 pounds (24.9 kilograms) for the seat depending on which size you choose. The overall size of the chair is 24.5 inches x 40 inches (62.2 centimeters x 101.6 centimeters). It is available in an 18 inch (45.7 centimeter), 20 inch (50.8 centimeter), and 22 inch (55.9 centimeter) Captain's Seat or an 18 inch (45.7 centimeter) and 20 inch (50.8 centimeter) Pan Seat; the seat length is undisclosed. The turning radius of this power wheelchair is 18 inches (45.72 centimeters), since it has the mid-wheel turning ability. It can achieve speeds of up to 4 miles per hour (6.4 kilometers per hour) and while we would love to inform you about it, the incline rating was undisclosed on multiple websites we researched, so we are assuming it is not intended for inclines greater than 4-6 degrees (average for these types of electric wheelchairs.) The Drive Medical Intrepid motors and frame can support passengers weighing up to 300 pounds (136 kilograms.) It can sustain this driving, on average, and depending on user weight, the terrain and battery condition, for up to 10 miles (16 kilometers) of continuous use on a full battery charge.

Now, going back to it's size, and portability, this model will certainly require a car lift. Most people, even with excellent upper body strength, will not be able to lift it without support of a car lift. Since it can not be folded, it can not be stored in a car/SUV trunk, but you can store it say in the corner of a room. The Drive Medical Intrepid accomplishes most indoor mobility requirements. Some doorways and hallways may be tight to fit through because of its size and turn radius. Handles simple outdoor mobility fairly, such as paved sidewalks & flat surfaces, but may be limited as to the terrains it can roll on.
