Welcome to our review of the Drive Medical Renegade. If you are interested in the Drive Medical Renegade, we have some valuable information below about this product that you should know about. We feel that the EZ Lite Cruiser is the best electric wheelchairs because they are light weight, compact, easy to use and very affordable when compared to the Drive Medical Renegade and it's offerings.
The Drive Medical Renegade Power Wheelchair is not much different than many similar power electric wheelchairs on the market today. As with many of the other models in Drive Medical’s range, the Renegade has a lot of the same standard features, such as adjustable and removable arm rests, adjustable seat height, and a few others. It has a weight of 191 pounds (86.6 kilograms) which allows it to carry passengers weighing up to 350 pounds (158.7 kilograms). Keep in mind that with this heavy weight, you will also need to purchase and install a lift on your car or SUV to be able to transport it long distances. Lastly, we want to point out that the Drive Medical Renegade does not have a good turning radius, which does not really make it very convenient for indoor use. If you require something that can handle both indoors and outdoors, you should choose one with a better turning radius.
Let's get into the specifics of the parameters of the Drive Medical Renegade. It has an overall weight of 191 pounds (86.6 kilograms) with battery. The base unit weighs 143 pounds (64.9 kilograms) and batteries weigh 48 pounds (21.8 kilograms). In terms of the overall dimensions, it comes in at 43 inches x 24 inches x 42 inches (109.2 centimeters x 61 centimeters x 106.7 centimeters.) The seat is available in an 18 inch (45.7 centimeter), 20 inch (50.8 centimeter), and 22 inch (55.9 centimeter) Captain’s Seat or an 18 inch (45.7 centimeter) and 20 inch (50.8 centimeter) Pan Seat. The seat length is undisclosed. The Drive Medical Renegade has a turn radius of 31 inches (78.7 centimeters.)
The Drive Medical Renegade can reach speeds of up to 4 miles per hour (6.4 kilometers per hour) and on average, depending on user weight, the terrain and battery condition, it can last for up to 10 miles (16 kilometers) of continuous use on a full battery charge. It is rated to climb hills of up to 12 degrees and has a very durable construction, because of it's heavy weight, that accommodates passengers up to 350 pounds (158.8 kilograms). Due to its weight, it requires a car lift. Most people, even with reasonable upper body strength, will not be able to lift it without support of a car lift. Since it can not be folded, it can not be stored in a car/SUV trunk, but it will fit in the corner of a room.
Depending on where it is purchased, it may come pre-assembled. Most times some assembly is required and a toolkit may be required. The Drive Medical Renegade accomplishes most indoor mobility requirements. Some doorways and hallways may be tight to fit through because of its size and turn radius. Handles simple outdoor mobility fairly, such as paved sidewalks & flat surfaces, but may be limited as to the terrains it can roll on. Testimonials are mixed. Some of the biggest complaints from customers is the size, weight and cost.
