Incline Ability Chart
We've created a table to help you better understand the ability of the EZ Lite Cruiser, and more importantly, what is safe for your driving on inclines and declines (slopes.) The values listed below are in a % slope. The rise of the ramp is in the left most column, and the remaining columns show the length of the ramp needed to obtain the slope in the intersecting row & column.
For example, a 20% slope would be obtained when a 60 inch (5 foot) ramp is elevated 12 inches. If the rise is any greater, such as 13 inches, it would be beyond a 20% slope and it would not be safe. Furthermore, if the ramp length is shorter than 60 inches and elevated 12 inches, it would also calculate out to beyond a 20% slope.
You can use this chart as a guide to see what length ramp you need to get up a predetermined height. Measure the height of the threshold you're applying the ramp to, and see what length ramp would be needed to make it a safe slope.

Legend
RED Text, WHITE Background = Beyond Safe Limits of 20% Slope (Not Safe!)
ORANGE Text, WHITE Background = Approaching Safe Limit (Questionable Safety)
GREEN Text, WHITE Background= Beyond ADA Rated But Acceptable (Safe)
GREEN Text, GREEN Background = ADA Rated (Very Safe)
Don't be mislead by companies claiming that their products can be "safely" used on slopes with greater than a 20% slope. While many power chairs (the EZ Lite Cruiser included) have strong enough motors to climb greater slopes, anything beyond 20% is not safe and is not recommended. In fact, an 8.33% slope is the maximum ADA rated slope, and the most recommended for safety. We want you to be safe in your driving and recommend never going beyond a 20% slope.
Need a more accurate calculation than what we have listed in the table above? Simply divide the height of the threshold you wish to get up (in inches), by 0.20 (the maximum grade of 20%) and that will tell you (in inches) how long the ramp needs to be.
